Featured in Assouline’s Iceland Epic, this artwork captures a quiet November morning in East Iceland — the air still, the fjord silent, the world bathed in soft, wintry light. I sat by the harbor of Seyðisfjörður with a simple breakfast and a steaming pot of tea, watching the fishing boats drift gently on the calm water.

Beside the brass kettle rested an enamel mug marked with a Vegvísir, the ancient Icelandic “wayfinder” symbol — said to help one find direction through any storm. It felt fitting here, in a place where weather and time shape everything, a quiet emblem of guidance and calm.

For over a decade, I’ve lived and breathed Iceland — not in passing visits, but through months spent in its wilderness and quiet towns like this one. Teatime in Seyðisfjörður captures one such moment of stillness — where the simplest rituals become sacred.

In the end, what I hope people feel when they see my work is care. The care for light, for craft, for the unseen details that make something feel alive. Because true quality isn’t about what’s visible — it’s about what’s felt, even when you can’t explain why.

FRAMING GUIDE

Custom-Framed in Los Angeles by Master Craftsmen

Handcrafted in Los Angeles

Each frame is custom-built by hand to ensure a flawless, museum-quality finish — crafted in Los Angeles by exceptionally skilled artisans. Their obsessive attention to detail guarantees a perfect fit and enduring quality.

No Veneers. Just Solid Wood

Your artwork deserves lasting integrity — that’s why I use only solid walnut, maple, and pine. Unlike veneer or imitation wood, these natural materials ensure your frame will never warp or degrade over time.

Always Flat. Never Buckled

A buckled print can ruin the impact of great art. That’s why each piece is permanently mounted to a rigid board — so it stays flat, clean, and beautifully tensioned, even in large sizes.

No Mat — The Museum-Standard Look

Every piece is framed without a mat — not by accident, but by design. This clean, contemporary approach is the museum standard for large-scale fine art photography.

Instead of a mat, I use custom-made white spacers — a refined detail that gives the artwork space to breathe and keeps all attention on the image. These spacers create an elegant air gap between the artwork and the acrylic, protecting it from sticking, moisture, and mold over time.

The result? A premium, gallery-style presentation that looks timeless, modern, and beautifully intentional — at any size.

Many collectors who were used to traditional matting have told me they love the clean, modern feel of this approach — and now prefer it.

However, if you strongly prefer a traditional mat, I’ll be happy to offer a custom option — just email me at adam@adambiernatstudio.com

Crystal-Clear Acrylic Protection

Enjoy crystal-clear viewing and serious protection. I use thick, framing-grade acrylic that filters 85% of UV light — completely flat and resilient, unlike the flimsy plastic found in mass-market frames.

Sealed Tight. Stays Clean Inside

To preserve your investment long term, a durable dust cover is sealed to the back of every frame — keeping the interior pristine for years to come.

Built-In Hanging Confidence

Each frame comes ready to hang, with premium hardware attached (corner hangers or a cleat for larger works). It’s solid, safe, and designed for effortless display from day one.

“The frame quality blew me away! Solid, sleek, and built to last.” – Peter F.

The story behind this piece

It was a cold November morning, the kind that humbles sound and slows time. My six-month stay in Iceland was coming to an end, and I had one last day in Seyðisfjörður before the ferry to Denmark. The town was completely still — no wind, no footsteps, only the faint creak of ropes from the harbor.

I sat on the wooden quay with a small breakfast: bread, butter, and tea. The brass kettle had followed me through months of travel — dented, tarnished, but reliable — and that morning, its warmth felt almost alive against the chill. Steam rose slowly, twisting in the pale light, and drifted toward the calm water where the fishing boats lay anchored like sleeping animals.

Beside the kettle sat an enamel mug adorned with a Vegvísir, the ancient Icelandic wayfinder symbol — believed to help one find direction through storms. It’s said that those who carry it will never lose their way, even when the path disappears. That symbol, etched against the white of the mug and the blue of the fjord beyond, felt quietly perfect. Iceland had been my compass for years — not just in geography, but in rhythm, purpose, and silence.

As I poured the tea, the reflection of the boats rippled gently, distorting the scene for a moment and then restoring it — like breath on glass. The air smelled of salt and snow, and I remember thinking how deeply peaceful it felt to be completely alone, yet so full of presence.

For me, “Teatime in Seyðisfjörður” isn’t about the act of tea itself, but about what it represents — a small, human warmth against the vastness of the North. It’s a moment that says: even here, at the edge of the world, calm can be found in the simplest rituals.
