What Collectors Ask Me

Everything you want to know — answered with honesty, care, and a collector’s mindset.

.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with collectors around the world — from first-time art buyers to seasoned enthusiasts.

Below, I’ve gathered the most common questions they’ve asked me, along with clear, thoughtful answers.

Whether you're wondering about the materials I use, the shipping process, or what makes this a real work of art — you'll find everything you need to feel confident and excited about collecting.

The Artwork

What makes this a real work of art?

This isn’t a poster or reproduction. It’s a museum-grade artworkhand-signed by me, Adam Biernat, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Every piece is crafted with archival materials of the highest standard — luxurious 100% cotton paper, pigment-based inks, and decades of technical refinement. But what makes it truly fine art is the vision behind it.

I’m an award-winning fine art photographer who has spent the past decade capturing the stillness of Iceland’s most remote corners. Since 2014, I’ve lived in the Icelandic wilderness for months at a time — beside glaciers, volcanoes, and faraway fjords — waiting for the light to break through the fog.

These aren’t just landscapes I photograph. They’re places I’ve lived, listened to, and waited for — until something quiet and true reveals itself.

My work has appeared on the covers of Iceland’s leading magazines, in award-winning exhibitions, and will soon be published by Assouline in Iceland Epic — a globally renowned collector’s book.

When you collect one of my pieces, you’re not buying a decorative image — you’re investing in a meticulously crafted, deeply personal work of art, made to last for generations.

What makes this collectible?

Each artwork is hand-signed by me, Adam Biernat, and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

It’s crafted with museum-grade materials and built to last — but more than that, it’s a reflection of years spent exploring the far edges of Iceland, waiting for the quiet moments others miss.

Will it fade over time?

No. Each piece is backed by my Lifetime Fade Warranty. It is crafted to last a lifetime — and beyond.

Printed with archival inks on museum-grade cotton paper, it meets the highest conservation standards.

If your piece ever shows any, even the tiniest, signs of fading, I’ll replace it — no questions asked.

Are your materials archival?

Absolutely. I use archival Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308 gsm — one of the world’s finest photographic papers — paired with top-tier archival inks (12-ink Canon Lucia Pro) for exceptional depth, detail, and longevity.

Is there a border?

Yes. Each piece has a clean white margin that gives it space to breathe and allows me to hand-sign it. Custom orders without a border are also available.

Looking for exact dimensions? You can find them here.

Can I request a custom size or a black-and-white version?

Absolutely. I’m happy to prepare a custom order for you — just email me: adam@adambiernatstudio.com

Custom sizes and custom requests (f.ex. black and white version) apply only to non-Limited Edition artwork.

Why do you sign your artwork with a pencil?

Pencil is the most archival writing tool, and in the art world, it is a common practice to sign fine art photographs with a pencil. It is simply considered more professional.

Graphite does not fade when exposed to light, so my signature will never disappear. I use special pencils that don't smudge easily.

Apart from that, a pencil signature tells you that the artist has approved the artwork and hand-signed it.

Sometimes you can come across work on which the signature is printed and resembles a signature made with a pen (it is very difficult to distinguish one from the other, and the printed signature has nothing to do with real fine art).

It's impossible to forge a pencil signature this way.

Is this a real investment in fine art?

Yes. You’re not buying a decorative print — you’re collecting a meticulously crafted, deeply personal work of art.

My photography has been featured in award-winning exhibitions, on Iceland's leading magazine covers, and will soon appear in Assouline’s Iceland Epic — a collector’s book published worldwide.

Shipping & Packaging

Where is the artwork shipped from?

Framed pieces are shipped from Los Angeles.

Each framed piece is first printed, signed, and carefully inspected personally by me in my studio, then shipped via FedEx Priority (2–3 business days) — I also offset my carbon footprint with Shopify Planet — to Los Angeles for custom framing and final assembly.

Damaged shipments haven't occurred — but if anything ever arrives in less than perfect condition, I’ll make it right.

It's never happened — but if it does, I’ll send a free replacement. Just email me photos of the damage and packaging.

Are all shipments fully insured?

Absolutely. If anything ever happens in transit, I will personally take care of resolving the issue, and you will get a replacement.

Is your packaging eco-friendly?

Absolutely! I really care about our fragile planet and I don't want all these beautiful landscapes which I capture in my photography to disappear. That's why whenever I can, I try to minimize use of plastic.

Almost all of my packaging can be recycled. I use paper boxes, paper tape, wrapping paper, tissue paper, biodegradable sleeves.

Do you offer carbon-neutral shipping?

All of my shipments are carbon-neutral. You can learn more here: Climate Commitment.

How is oversized framed artwork delivered?

Extra Large (36" x 48") artworks are delivered in a sturdy box with FedEx Ground.

Will I have to pay import duties or taxes upon delivery?

No — I cover all taxes and duties worldwide. You won’t pay anything extra upon delivery, no matter where you are based.

Framing

What sets your framing apart?

Each frame is handcrafted in Los Angeles from solid wood (never veneer) with museum-level care.

Your artwork arrives mounted, protected by thick UV acrylic glass, and ready to hang — no guesswork or trips to the framer.

Do you frame with a mat?

Every piece is framed without a mat — not by accident, but by design. This clean, contemporary approach is the museum standard for large-scale fine art photography.

Instead of a mat, I use custom-made white spacers — a refined detail that gives the artwork space to breathe and keeps all attention on the image. These spacers create an elegant air gap between the artwork and the acrylic, protecting it from sticking, moisture, and mold over time.

The result? A premium, gallery-style presentation that looks timeless, modern, and beautifully intentional — at any size.

Many collectors who were used to traditional matting have told me they love the clean, modern feel of this approach — and now prefer it.

However, if you strongly prefer a traditional mat, I’ll be happy to offer a custom option — just email me at adam@adambiernatstudio.com

Do you use glass?

No — I use premium, thick framing-grade acrylic that’s stronger, safer, and doesn’t shatter.

Apart from that, it filters 85% of UV light, and it is completely flat and resilient, unlike the flimsy plastic found in mass-market frames.

Enjoy crystal-clear viewing and serious protection.

Is all framed artwork mounted to a rigid mounting board?

To prevent an artwork from buckling and to keep it perfectly flat, it is always mounted to a rigid dry-adhesive acid-free mounting board.

What's exactly inside a frame?

Solid wood moulding, framing-grade acrylic, custom-made white spacers, rigid mounting board, and a dust cover — all assembled to last with museum-level care.

What are the exact frame dimensions?

You can find the exact frame dimensions here.

Where do you frame?

I frame my artwork in Los Angeles, with the help of a trusted custom framer I’ve worked with for years.

Secure Payment

Is my payment secure?

Yes. Payments are processed securely via Stripe, PayPal, and Apple Pay — all with top-tier encryption and security standards.

What payment types do you accept?

I accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) through Stripe, as well as debit cards that can be used for online transactions.

You can also pay with PayPal and ApplePay.
